Tesla Denied New Jersey Market

Tesla Motors Chairman & CEO Elon Musk blogged on being forced out of direct sales in New Jersey. Despite all the technical aspects of selling cars through dealerships around the country, this issue boils down to one thing: innovators and disruptors face a gauntlet of pitfalls on the way to market, not the least of which are overzealous regulators with no interest in disruption. When regulators in New Jersey had an opportunity to move toward new technology, they opted to defend the status quo. As one observer could be overheard saying in the public hearing of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, “What you have done today is… un-American.”
