CTC Boards Convene at Mare Island, Spotlighting Redevelopment

The first quarterly round of board meetings for the California Technology Council took place at Mare Island, March 8th and 9th, putting a spotlight on both the lasting legacy of base closures and the opportunity to redevelop a shipyard with wonderful infrastructure.

CTC's boards met in a home originally established for Admiral David Farragut, who was commissioned to establish the Navy Base.

Today, there remain many abandoned buildings left by the US Navy, some of which seem damaged beyond repair.

But redevelopment and new investment is on the upswing. The Bay Area's housing crisis is part of the inspiration for Lennar's new housing, and new industries are filling the void as well. Mare Island is attracting new interest from filmmakers and will soon open a craft distillery as well.
